Time
Zone
High-energy jazz with undercurrents of Afro-Cuban rhythm opening up the
music in a new direction - a fresh, individual and contemporary sound from
TIME ZONE led by trumpeter/composer Loz Speyer, whose work reflects the
experience of living for periods of time in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
The new 6-piece line-up with the addition of congas, brings out more fully
the rhythmic roots of the music.
"Time Zone is an infectiously zesty band as at home in latin-tinged territory
as in straight-ahead jazz bustles or slow-burning ballads. There is an engaging
air of informality about much of Speyer's varied, carefully written material,
and it is addressed with irresistible panache by an enthusiastic band, so
that the sudden mood and tempo changes that characterise some pieces seem
wholly uncontrived... The band's rapport is what really impresses, though:
the album is imbued with the relaxed but musicianly feel that marks the
best small-group music, and both the ensemble work and the soloing are simply
first-rate." Chris Parker, Jazz At Ronnie Scott's magazine
