John
Maddocks Jazzmen
The John Maddocks Jazzmen reach their thirty-fourth birthday in 2006. John
had previously enjoyed success with the Black Bottom Stompers a band which
he formed whilst in London and which still exists today. The Jazzmen have
their own sound brought about mainly by the unique and driving sound of
John's clarinet playing, John plays in an individual style based on that
of the fine clarinettist Johnny Dodds, but John is his own man and encompasses
influences from all over the traditional jazz spectrum.
The band's repertoire is very wide indeed with many unfamiliar tunes being
included. There have been very few personnel changes over the years and
one or two in the band can still claim to have been at least twenty five
years younger when they first joined. The band has adapted to the changes
well and the drive and cohesiveness for which it is known remains very much
part of the band's sound. The band continues to be popular for all kinds
of functions throughout the uK including most of the major jazz venues and
festivals. There have been broadcasts and many CD issues.
The current members of the band are

Peter Wilkinson - Trumpet
Tony Farr- Trombone
Peter Tamplin - Piano
Stuart Gledhill- Bass
