New Society Jazz

A great West Country based jazz band led by trombonist Bob Reynolds, this six piece plays a wide programme of authentic jazz, blues, spirituals and popular melodies. Formed in 1998 by Bob who started playing in Nottingham in1965. He played for over 10 years in the Old Duke in Bristol with the King Street Seven.
Joining Bob will be Norman Thatcher (trumpet/cornet) who has played and recorded with many great musicians throughout the years such as Ken Colyer and Acker Bilk as well as visiting New Orleans regularly to play and record with the local musicians there. Norman is regarded as the leading exponent of the Bunk Johnson and De De Pierce New Orleans style of playing. His bell like tone and melodic lines gives any band its own unique sound.
John Miller (clarinet/soprano sax) first started playing New Orleans Jazz in 1955 around the Newbury/Reading area and has since played with many bands in the Bristol and Bath area.
Howard (Badger) Williams (banjo/guitar) started out playing guitar in a new wave band in the late seventies. He soon saw the error of his ways and joined a band of workmates playing traditional jazz.
Geoff Miller (bass) started playing traditional jazz in the mid 1970's in Somerset and then on into Bath and Bristol. He was fortunate to accompany musicians of high calibre such as Acker Bilk, Kenny Baker, Digby, Fairweather, Roy Williams and John Barnes.
John Coad (drums) recently John has been associated with Jazzarus (as co-leader) and has played in France and Spain with Bristol's Panama Jazz Band. In 2002 John joined the New Society Jazz Band.
